Questions ??

And where did it all go ??

No one seems to know, but our treasures of the past are no longer around.  From pictures that we have on our website, we had at least two very distinct shields that were, as I recall, only displayed at formal occasions and were especially prevalent in induction photographs.  Bill Burleigh made the second one and the origin of the first, I have no idea.

And what ever happened to the actual charter for the fraternity?  Where did it end up?  And all of each chapter’s minutes.  Where are they some 60, 50, or 40 years later?

And swords, how many of them have survived??  And it’s amazing to see a black book still surviving on our website!

Back in the 60’s, Dave Serafino provided a red nylon flag with our gold Alpha Omega symbol in the centre?  Who’s flying that one today?

And where are all of the induction group photographs?  We have a few posted on our website, but there must be dozens more out there still.

And best yet, who can still remember the words to our frat songs???  “We are singing, praises ringing…”, or “Hail to the mighty scarlet and gold, our love for you will always be told”.

Tell us what you remember, but leave out the part about Hell Night!!

Regards to all

Fraternally,

The Winter Road to the Community

The Eabamet Lake Express-way ..

Here we are on the Eabamet Lake express-way into the community. Notice the multiple lanes of traffic during this time of day .. the Rush Hour.

Directly ahead on the horizon is a set of islands that occasionally gives rise to "traffic jams". It is not uncommon to have to slow down and "rubber-neck" at a crossing fox, wolf, or heed the crows' warnings about approaching "caws".

Hey: Don't forget about the upcoming reunion ... the committee has already been meeting and it sounds like we will have a real blast ...

Even if you weren't a member of Alpha Chapter ... there will be lots of brothers there from all the Chapters ... ME?? ... I was a member of Alpha and Delta ... so I'm looking forward to exchanging lies and exaggerations with lots of brothers ... !!! ... Just kidding about the lies (but not the exaggerations) !!! ...

Just remember, we are brothers ... I was in my mid-50's when I met my step-brother that I never knew existed ... and since then we have become not only brothers but best friends ... the same thing can happen with AO brothers ..

I have met a bunch of "young pups" since the creation of this Blog ... and I certainly am enjoying getting to know them ... and of course, boring them to death with the ramblings of a senile old man ...

Looking forward to having a great time just meeting old "old fart" brothers like me ... and meeting you "young pups" who upheld the traditions after I left high school ... and moved on to other silliness ...

The Committee: (MANY MANY THANKS TO .. THESE BROTHERS) ... Frank Healey; Harry Burkman; Steve Krizsan; Jim McCutcheon; and Garry Johnston.

It sounds like they are having an absolute riot planning our VERY FIRST REUNION ...

In the next post I will post their contact information if they send it to me ... OR BETTER YET, ... hey you guys, ... how about a post??

Will post some more silly stuff later,

Jim McKernan (Peneseh)

Possible Reunion, September 26 & 27th

Greetings to everyone: Hopefully you have received an e-mail from Frank Healey concerning a possible reunion this coming September ... attached below is my reply to him with some suggestions ... I'm posting it so that everyone has a chance to jump in and offer suggestions ...

"Not one of us, alone, is as smart as all of us together."

Hi Frank: Greetings from the bush in NW Ontario. I will tentatively reserve the weekend of Sept. 26/27 ...
I've made some suggestions below ... and will post this on our blog, if you haven't already done so ...

Are you willing to assist in organizing? (Maybe I should have put this one first)

YES, ... BUT MY CONTRIBUTION WOULD HAVE TO BE LIMITED TO WHATEVER I CAN DO VIA E-MAIL, OUR FRATERNITY BLOG, MY WEBSITE, ... ETC.

Type of Event
1. Picnic, bring your own food and beverages, outdoors possibly in pavilion.
2. Meet in restaurant e.g. Queenston Heights Restaurant or similar facility.
3. Meet at a hall where food provided, or not.
4. Other, you describe what you would like.
MY PREFERENCE WOULD BE A LICENCED HALL WITH FOOD AVAILABLE SO THAT PEOPLE CAN MIX, MINGLE, GAB, WANDER, .. BRAG & EXAGGERATE ...

Attendees
1. Members only
2. Members and partners
3. Members and Families
4. Other.
I PROBABLY WILL RIDE DOWN SO I EXPECT TO BE ALONE, ... BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT EVERYONE ELSE HAS TO BE SOLO. MY WIFE IS AN ACCOUNTANT AND WILL BE BACK HARD AT WORK TRAVELLING NW ONTARIO ...

Activities
1. Meet in a room and talk until early hours.
2. Casino.
3. Show e.g. Motown at Niagara Casino or Yuck Yucks etc.
4. Casual sports eg baseball game, Frisbee (drinking too much)
5. Touristic venues in Niagara Falls and area
6. Other
A LIST (OUTLINE) OF WHAT'S AVAILABLE .. E.G. WHO'S PERFORMING AT THE CASINO, WINE TOURS ..) WOULD BE GREAT .. AND A POSSIBLE VENUE OF POSSIBLE ACTIVITIES WOULD BE GREAT. ALSO, A CENTRAL PLACE WHERE PEOPLE COULD JUST CONGREGRATE, HANG OUT AND HOOK-UP WITH ONE ANOTHER ... THAT IS, IF THE "OUT-OF-TOWN" PEOPLE DO THE CASINO THING IT WOULD BE A PLACE TO RETURN TO THE NEXT DAY TO GET RE-CONNECTED ...

Cost
How much are you willing to spend?
1. 0-$25.00
2. $25.00 to $50.00
3. $50.00 to $100.00
4. more
THIS HASN'T HAPPENED FOR 50+ YEARS SO $5 TO $10 PER YEAR ISN'T OUT OF LINE ... WHEN 2 DELTA BROTHERS SHOWED UP AT THE HOSPITAL IN HAMILTON DURING MY HEART SURGERY IT WAS PRICELESS ...

How much are you willing to advance?

WHATEVER IT TAKES IN ORDER TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN ... BECAUSE THERE ALWAYS ARE UP-FRONT COSTS ..

Do you require overnight accommodation?
MOST OUT-OF-TOWNERS MOST LIKELY WOULD LIKE TO MAKE THEIR OWN ARRANGEMENTS, ... BUT A LIST OF WHAT'S AVAILABLE ... WITH ADDRESSES, PHONE NUMBERS, E-MAIL, ETC. WOULD BE REALLY HELPFUL ... SO THAT RESERVATIONS CAN BE MADE ... MAYBE BROTHERS COULD POST SUGGESTIONS AND IDEAS ON OUR BLOG .. ALSO "GREAT PLACES" TO EAT COULD BE POSTED ... SOMETIMES THE FREE BREAKFAST AT BEST WESTERN JUST DOESN'T CUT IT ...

ALSO, FOR PEOPLE FLYING IN, A LIST OF CAR RENTALS, TAXIS, SHUTTLE SERVICES, ETC. .. AGAIN WITH PHONE NUMBERS, ONLINE REGISTRATION INFO. WOULD HELP .. BECAUSE I'M NOT RIDING AFTER A FEW BEERS ..

Will key-ya more later, ...

Reunion? ... dates?

Hi again, .. from the bush in Northwestern Ontario ...

I'm in the process of planning a ride to Southern Ontario this summer and would like to know if anything has been "firmed-up" re: a reunion.

From where I live it takes me a day to get to Thunder Bay ... air flight then 4 hour drive ... and then another 3 to 4 days of riding to get to Niagara Falls .. so I'd like to incorporate any possible reunion in my ride.

I have a son and grandkids in St. Catharines to visit, and would like to visit Keith in Niagara Falls, and ... any other old fogies who like hot wings and Corona ... (only after I'm finished riding because beer and bikes don't mix!! )

Hope you're having a great evening ... because it's quiet and peaceful here .. except for 2 loons diving beside my dock ...

Will key more later, ... Jim (Peneseh)

Silly stuff from Jim McKernan

Hi to all Brothers from the cold, wet paradise known as Northwestern Ontario ...

It's me, Jim McKernan (aka Peneseh - which is my Ojibway name) ... Alpha chapter in the late '50's ... and a founding member of Delta chapter ...

For about the past 15 years I've been living in the bush about 250 air miles north of Thunder Bay ... since retiring from Lakehead University about a year ago I can't believe how I ever had time to hold down a fulltime job ... at this point I'm in the process of revising and updating my website: http://www.thebushprof.ca/ ... but you can have a look and see more about my lifestyle ...

Although I taught courses online ... I'm pretty new to Blogging ... so I'm just fooling around trying to learn ...

Hopefully my competence will improve to the point where I will be able to attach photos, etc.

Hope this finds you happy, well, .. and with a good supply of Corona and hotwings ...

Take care, ... Jim (Peneseh)
